Male Spirit

“I would say to young people a number of things. I would say — let them remember that there is a meaning beyond absurdity. Let them be sure that every little deed counts, that every word has power, and that we do — everyone — our share to redeem the world, in spite of all absurdities, and all the frustrations, and all the disappointment. And above all, remember that the meaning of life is to live life as if it were a work of art.”

— RABBI ABRAHAM JOSHUA HESCHEL

Life As a Work of Art

Male Spirit Zoom Retreat
Saturday, April 23, 2022, 10:00am to 2:00pm CST

A Male Spirit Zoom retreat day offered by Shem Center for Interfaith Spirituality
With retreat guides, Joseph Kilikevice and Stephen Miller

tikkun olamTIKKUN OLAM is a signature theme of Jewish tradition. It refers to any activity that improves the world, bringing it closer to the harmonious state for which it was created. The creation account in the Book of Genesis repeats seven times that the Creator beheld His creation and found it “good,” and indeed, “very good.”

While the world is innately good, its Creator purposely left room for us to improve upon and fix any damage. It’s a big unfinished job and someone has to do it. We are the Creator’s partners charged with the sacred task of completing the world. The task is clearly a large one, but every small act of kindness, every word of encouragement, every thoughtful gesture of friendship, every act of inclusiveness and welcome, every moment of appreciation and of love becomes a way to finish G-D’s work of creation. Our lives as men then become works of art. We are all made in the image of the Divine Artist, making us artists with Him.

Male Spirit men and newcomers are welcome to join us for a day of reflecting, learning, singing, listening to each other an enjoying the companionship of friends on an honorable path named, Male Spirit.

This Zoom retreat will begin and end on time. All are asked to make a commitment to be present for the entire four hour retreat. Lunch time will be shared in small randomly formed groups.
