All creation is a symphony of joy.

Creation, A Symphony of Joy

a Shem Center Virtual Gala Concert

Sunday, May 23, 2021 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm

Creation, A Symphony of Joy — a concert using quality recording and Zoom technology, presenting the music of Hildegard of Bingen, 12th century Abbess and mystic whose music expresses, “the greening power of God’s creation.”

The Hildegard Singers of Grand Rapids, Michigan will join us virtually to introduce the music and suggest ways to appreciate what we are hearing. Given the limitations of Zoom technology, professional studio recordings of their exquisite and engaging voices will make up the program. The concert we are presenting will largely be the one scheduled for our Spring 2020 gala concert before the pandemic made postponement necessary.

Previous gala concerts gathered us together for an afternoon of live performances followed by a reception. Consider bringing your laptop computer outdoors and safely gathering some family and friends in your back yard to enjoy the concert. Serve coffee and dessert, and if you like, make it a dress-up occasion.

Kermit the Frog will make a guest appearance on Zoom singing, ”It’s not Easy Being Green.” as a special treat for children. An especially joyful and playful piece of music by Hildegard is also in the program as a special treat for children.
